Project Outcome March 2026

Thank you for providing feedback on the proposal to deliver roundabouts along Gray Avenue at the following intersections:

  • Wedgwood Avenue
  • Milton Road
  • Landon Avenue
  • Rosella Avenue

We have carefully reviewed all the feedback received and met with the Mangere Otahuhu Local Board and Otara Papatoetoe Local Board and agreed to proceed with the roundabouts at Wedgwood Avenue, Milton Road and Landon Avenue intersections, with no changes to the proposed plans.

Taking the community feedback regarding parking loss into consideration, the roundabout at the Rosella Road intersection will be put on hold and reconsidered after post-construction monitoring.

We have reviewed the parking loss and are able to retain an additional parking space at the Wedgewood Ave intersection, as well as two spaces at the Landon Ave intersection.

This new plan will require the removal of 39 roadside car parks spaces across the three intersections.

  • Wedgewood Ave/Gray Ave – 9 spaces
  • Landon Ave/Gray Ave – 13 spaces
  • Milton Road/Gray Ave – 17 spaces

This is a reduction on the proposed 53 parking spaces being removed in the proposal. We expect to deliver this project before the end of 2026 and will be in touch with residents impacted prior to work starting.

About the project

Making the Gray Avenue corridor safer for all road users!

This project is part of Auckland Transport's Road Safety programme, an improvement programme that prioritises safety interventions at high-risk intersections and corridors in Auckland. The intention of this project is to slow driving speeds along the full length of Gray Avenue to reduce speed related and failing to give way crashes. There have been 58 reported crashes along Gray Avenue between 2020-2024 including 16 Injury crashes. In 2025 alone, there have been 12 reported crashes 3 serious and 2 minor injuries, with the majority caused by drivers going too fast or failing to give way at the intersections. These statics confirm the importance of reducing driving speeds along this corridor to improve safety of all road users, including students walking and cycling to local schools and commuters accessing Middlemore Hospital and local community facilities.

We are proposing the following safety improvements:

This project aims to improve safety by slowing down driving speeds and providing better pedestrian facilities along Gray Avenue. It will complement the new bus stops going in along Gray Avenue for the new 326 Bus route (haveyoursay.at.govt.nz/new-bus-stops-in-mangere). We propose to install four mini roundabouts and side islands at the following intersections. We expect the safety benefits to out-way the minor delays that these roundabouts may cause:

Gray Avenue/ Wedgwood Avenue

  • Mini roundabout

  • Side islands and central islands to reduce speed

  • Pedestrian crossing improvements

  • Loss of 10 roadside parking spaces

Gray Avenue/Rosella Road

  • Mini roundabout

  • Side islands and central islands to reduce speed

  • Pedestrian crossing improvements

  • Loss of 11 roadside parking spaces

Gray Avenue/Landon Avenue

  • Mini roundabout

  • Side islands and central islands to reduce speed

  • Pedestrian crossing improvements

  • Loss of 15 roadside parking spaces

Gray Avenue/Milton Road

  • Mini roundabout

  • Side islands and central islands to reduce speed

  • Pedestrian crossing improvements

  • Loss of 17 roadside parking spaces

Benefits and Impacts

  • Reduction in crashes along Gray Avenue and at the intersections
  • The mini roundabouts will slow driver speeds along the corridor
  • Safer pedestrian crossing facilities will make it easier and more enjoyable for you, our tamariki, and the community to navigate your neighbourhood with confidence

  • Our study of the proposal shows that while there will be some minor delays along Gray Avenue, it will be easier and safer to get in and out of the side roads

  • Parking changes will involve removing parking spaces and painting broken yellow lines (see plans for details) to improve visibility for both pedestrians and drivers with the total numbers being:

Gray Avenue 29

Dreifuss Place 1

Wedgwood Avenue 7

Rosella Road 5

Landon Avenue 7

Milton Road 4

What happens next

The survey has now been closed, and we are reviewing the feedback.

We’ll post the outcome of this proposal and a summary of community feedback on our website.

Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
