About the project

We’re making safety improvements along Godley Road and the Titirangi Road intersection to create safer, easier crossings for school children, families, and the wider community. These changes will slow down traffic, improve visibility, and reduce crashes in this busy area.

We’ve worked closely with Green Bay Schools to upgrade the crossings outside both the Primary and High School. We will also install new traffic lights at the intersection of Godley Road and Titirangi Road, which is a high-risk area for crashes. Together, these projects will make it easier and safer for everyone to walk, cross, and travel around your neighbourhood.

Growing communities mean busier roads — so we’re improving crossings now to keep people safe and moving.

The changes we're making in 2026:

Safety improvements near Green Bay Schools

• New crossing islands outside Green Bay High School so children have a safe waiting area in the middle of the road.

• Relocated crossing outside Green Bay Primary School (further east) with the existing island removed.

• Gentle speed cushions along Godley Road between La Rosa Street and Stottholm Road to slow down drivers.

• New bus shelter near Green Bay High School for students and other bus users.

• Extended no-parking (yellow lines) at Stottholm Rd/Godley Rd and Castleford St/Godley Rd to improve traffic flow.

• New crossing islands near driveways to improve visibility for drivers and people on foot.

• To make space for these improvements, we need to reallocate road space and remove six parking spaces (1 on Stottholm Rd, 1 on Castleford St, 4 on Godley Rd).

New traffic lights at Godley and Titirangi Road intersection

• Installing traffic lights to improve safety at this high-crash intersection.

• Adding a new zebra crossing on the left-turn slip lane from Godley Road to Titirangi Road.

• Widening the footpath near the new crossing to give people with prams and mobility needs more space.

• Reshaping roadside kerbs to fit the new layout and improve how traffic flows.

Benefits to your community

  • Safe crossing facilities make it easier and stress-free for you, our tamariki and our community to move about your neighbourhood with confidence.
  • It offers better connections to parks, public transport and other local amenities.
  • Improves visibility by ensuring children crossing Godley Road can be easily seen by drivers.
  • New traffic lights and crossing will reduce crashes and near misses, making the area safer for all road users.
  • Ease congestion and improve access by removing parking spaces that block sightlines.
  • Supports community connections – Shows a commitment to the safety of the entire school community and nearby residents.
