Great North Road, New Lynn - Broken Yellow Lines
About the project
Great North Road is a major road for thousands of Aucklanders. About 39,000 vehicles travel along this road daily to commute to work, school, and deliver goods and services to homes and businesses across Tāmaki Makaurau.
Though much of Great North Road is open to the free flow of traffic, parking is still allowed along a small section in New Lynn between Waters Place and Wattle Street.
Although few cars still park here, people in the area have told us the ones that do can create traffic bottlenecks on the road, causing congestion, delays and safety and visibility issues for people trying to manoeuvre around the parked cars. This is especially an issue for buses, freight and other large vehicles and can negatively affect reliability of services.
Some car crashes have also happened in this area because of the parked cars.
What we are proposing
Due to the low level of parking demand on this part of Great North Road, to stop the bottlenecks that create congestion, delays, and safety/visibility issues, and to make it consistent with the rest of the corridor, we're proposing to install broken yellow lines along Great North Road between Waters Place and Wattle Street in New Lynn.
Design drawings are available on our webpage with more details on where we’re placing the broken yellow lines.
What we want your feedback on
We are seeking feedback from nearby residents, businesses, and others that are located on or frequently travel through this part of Great North Road in New Lynn. We'd like to know if there's anything important that we should be considering in making this proposed change. We also want to know if there's anything we might be missing that would help make your journey through this area safer and better.
How you can have your say
