About the project
We’re improving footpath safety on Glen Road in Browns Bay to provide safe, convenient and well-connected walking and cycling options in your community.
This is part of our Footpaths Programme which commits to encourage safe walking and cycling in your neighbourhood.
The changes we're making
- Installing new footpaths and kerbs on the western side of Glen Road and at the intersection with Bute Road.
- Re-aligning parking on both sides of Glen Road. The new parking layout will accommodate the new footpath and kerb buildout at the intersection of Glen Road and Bute Road. We will need to clear access and re-allocate road space by removing four parking spaces.
- Installing new rubber wheel stops for all angled parking spaces to ensure vehicles do not obstruct the footpaths
- Reconstructing driveways that will be impacted by the new footpath. Any work that alters a driveway shall be at our cost.
- Installing yellow tactile pavers which are yellow guidance paving markers at the crossing points of Glen Road and Bute Road intersection to help vision impaired people cross the road
- Installing new pram crossings and widening the footpath at the intersection with Bute Road
- Removing a tree to allow for the construction and access for people using the footpath
- Paint new road markings to clarify boundaries and indicate giving way at the intersection to Bute Road
- Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) to clear access and help with visibility for motorists
Benefits to your community
- Footpaths make it safer for the community by separating motorists and traffic from people on foot. Widening the footpath gives more room for people to wait to cross
- Well-maintained footpaths are safer for people who walk and ride their bikes and scooters, reducing the risk of being hurt or injured.
- More footpaths make it easier and stress-free for the community to move around the neighbourhood, offering better connections to schools, parks, public transport and other local amenities.
- Pram crossings make it safer and more convenient for people pushing prams or strollers to cross roads. It helps ensure those with mobility needs can navigate crossings more easily.
- Walking and cycling is good for the environment and good for your health. It helps reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing our carbon emissions.
- New road markings and signs clarify right of way, improve safety by minimising risk of collisions, and ensures compliance with traffic regulations.
