About the project

We’re responding to safety concerns raised by the community by improving travel through the Glenfield Road and Roberts Road intersection. Currently, it is difficult for cars to turn right out of Roberts Road onto Glenfield Road, vehicles are misjudging the bend on Glenfield Road, and there is no safe place for people to cross this busy intersection. To make this area safer for everyone, we will be installing new traffic lights and traffic light-controlled crossings at this intersection.

The changes we're making in mid-2026:

  • Install new traffic lights and traffic light-controlled crossings at the Roberts Road and Glenfield Road intersection.
  • Add No Stopping at All Times (Broken Yellow Lines) outside #1, #3, #5, #6, #8, and #10 Roberts Road.
  • Realign the footpath and cut back kerb outside 316 Roberts Road.
  • Build out the kerb, realign bus stop, and reconstruct driveways outside #316 and #320 Glenfield Road.
  • Construct new kerb buildouts and footpaths outside #329 and #333 Glenfield Road.
  • Add a speed hump on the service lane near #329 and #339 Glenfield Road.
  • Relocate the bus stop and shelter from outside #325 Glenfield Road to #329 Glenfield Road.
  • Install flashing advanced intersection warning signs outside #339 and #341 Glenfield Road.
  • Apply high friction surfacing on intersection approaches.
  • Add cycle advance stop boxes at the intersection
  • To clear access and improve visibility we need to reallocate road space and remove:
  • 2 parking space outside 3 Roberts Roads
  • approx. 12 parking spaces outside #320 #314 #312 #304 #326 Glenfield Road.

A larger drawing can be found to the right of this page.

Benefits to your community:

  • Safer for Everyone: New traffic lights and traffic light controlled crossings will improve safety for all road users by reducing the chance of crashes and near misses at the intersection.
  • Better Traffic Flow: Traffic lights will help manage busy roads, reducing congestion and making it easier for vehicles to move through the area.
  • Family-Friendly Design: Widened footpaths and other upgrades will make it easier for families to get around.
  • Better for the Community: With schools and parks nearby, the changes will create safer routes for the community.
  • Improved Road Use: Re-allocating road space around this intersection will provide clear access and reduce queueing. This will allow vehicles to turn more easily and safely.

What happens next:

  • We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
