Project Update April 2025:
We originally planned to complete this work in April 2025.We are now looking at completing the delivery by May 2025.
We will update this webpage if there are any further changes to the plan.
About the project
We’ve received requests from the community to improve the traffic flow on Gills Road in Albany and address safety and access concerns for buses through this section of the road, where it meets the one-lane bridge.
Cars parked near the narrow road by the bridge block other vehicles including buses from being able to get through safely and presents a danger to drivers and other road users. There are safety risks for oncoming vehicles and anyone crossing the road.
The changes we’re making by April 2025
Paint No Stopping at All Times (Broken Yellow Lines) opposite to 20 Gills Road extending the existing broken yellow lines by two car lengths.
A drawing with details of where the changes will be installed is attached on right hand side of this page.
How this benefits your community
Clears congestion and ensures ease of access for all vehicles into and out of Gills Road.
Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking, cycling and crossing the road
Makes it safer and easier for people walking to the new playground, particularly for tamariki (children) who can be hard to see when there are lots of cars parked on the road.
Any changes to the plan, will be updated on our webpage.
