Engagement closed

The engagement for this project has finished. We are proceeding with the changes as planned.

What happens next

  • We are looking at installing these changes by June 2026
  • We will be in touch with residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
  • Any change to the plan will be updated on this website.

About this project

We’re responding to requests to improve parking along Fruitvale Road to accommodate for pick up and drop offs from the nearby train station during peak times.

Parking along Fruitvale Road and near the train station can be difficult at busy times. Implementing time restrictions will improve parking availability, allowing these parking spaces to be used by everyone including train passengers and visitors.

The changes we’re making in 2026

  • Install new pick-up and drop-off parking spaces along Fruitvale Road. (Parking 5 minutes 7am-9am, 3pm-6pm, Monday-Friday.)
  • Parking will stay unrestricted on the weekends and outside the permitted hours, supporting nearby residents.
  • New signage associated with the changes above.

A drawing showing the changes can be found here.

Benefits to the community:

  • Quick and available parking spaces for train passengers and visitors.
  • Improves safety and visibility out of driveways on Fruitvale Road.
  • Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking, cycling and crossing the road, making it safer for everyone especially tamariki (children).

What happens next

  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
  • It will take one day for the installation of new signs and road markings in good weather conditions. We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.
  • Please remember to park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
