Fleming Street, Onehunga - 3x P15 Parking Time Restriction
Consultation Outcome
After reviewing the feedback we received, we are proceeding with no changes on our proposal to install three P15 Time Restrictions on Fleming Street, Onehunga.
What happens next
We anticipate these changes will be installed between June and July 2025.
We'll be in touch with local residents and businesses before any changes take place.
Community Feedback
Thank you for helping us make better decisions for your neighbourhood, informed by your local knowledge.
From the 29 online feedback we received, 25 of these advised the changes would benefit the community while 4 advised the changes would not benefit the community.
Below is a summary of your feedback and our responses.
Parking Time Restriction
- Suggestion to shorten the time restriction on one side of the road and extend the time restriction on the other side of the road.
- Suggestion to increase the time restriction to 30mins.
- Suggestion to add more 15min parking time restrictions.
- Suggestion to implement 120mins max parking.
- Concerned that once the time restrictions are in place it will set an example throughout the whole area. X2
AT is currently in the early stages of working on a Town Centre review of Onehunga that will look at the wider area to see if the current parking management is still fit for purpose. The findings of this will be discussed with the Local Board and Business Association and if needed, some short- and medium-term recommendations will be made. It will include this section of Fleming Street.
Parking
- Suggestion to have the owners of 15 Fleming Street should utilise their own land for parking rather than relying on public funding. X2
The P15 parking time restriction spaces can be used by anyone on a first come first served basis and are not exclusively for the use of those visiting 15 Fleming Street.
Miscellaneous
- Request for AT to make decisions quicker and be more responsive to the needs of the community.
There are processes that need to be followed when proposing a change which often mean that changes do take some time before they can be implemented.
Positive Feedback (Not Summarised)
“This parking change would greatly benefit a unique local business, VANIYE, which has the capacity to significantly enrich the greater Onehunga community”
“It enables more people to use the carparks and supports local businesses in doing so.”
“I could access Vaniye patisserie and park easily.”
“In the 17 years I have leased the warehouse at 7 Fleming Street in Onehunga, I have seen significant improvements in this locality with a lot more families living here. The applicant has made a significant contribution to the amenities of this locality and should be fully supported.”
“Easy pick up of cakes.”
“Great for people in the community trying to access the local businesses in the area and preventing unnecessary disruption or congestion.”
“Less illegal parking in other business parks.”
“As there is a takeaway only bakery/cake shop right outside, this would be a perfect fit as many customers would want to find more parking nearby. The shop is takeaway only, with no sit-down area, so people who pre-paid and pre ordered the cakes/pastries can just pop in and out nice a fast rather than having people parked all day, or sometimes homeless people in cars parking for weeks or months with their vehicles.”
“Easier access for businesses.”
“It would allow shoppers to nip in and out of the area, increasing foot traffic.”
“The bakery is a great addition to this part of the community. There are a lot of people living in the area. There are a lot of people who drive past on Symonds St. More people would likely support this new business if they could park on the road in front of it. There seems to be plenty of parking in the area for those seeking long term parking. Most of the businesses in Fleming St and Symonds St have off street parking. There is ample parking at the library and at Woolworths for workers in the area who need all day parking. The suggested changes are good.”
“It would allow more customers to support the neighbouring business who have invested in bettering the community.”
“Allow our delivery vehicles to possibly drop items off to our customer based at 15 Fleming Street which at present can be difficult due to cars parked for the day.”
“To help ease traffic flow when picking up yummy treats from Vaniye, make the customer experience better.”
“All Fleming Street has currently no parking limitation, which is a real challenge when trying to park during the day for a few minutes as cars are parked all day long. The issue is the same with adjacent streets, and no parking is available on Selwyn Street. 3 parking spaces with 15min would definitely help to improve turnover as well as security.”
“Support local business, be able to purchase yummy goodies on the run. I was unable to get a carpark close by so had to park further away, having no carparks could stifle this much needed business.”
“People will be more easy (less walk) for getting a coffee from the bakery.”
“Free up short term carparking. Encourage an expansion of local business into surrounding streets off Onehunga mall road.”
“Encourages people to come to support the business.”
“Ease of access to businesses where you need only stop for short time.”
“Safety as car which are stopping for few minutes end up parking on the curve between Selwyn and Fleming Street, or on driveways.”
“Getting a breakfast on the way to work faster without parking hassle.”
“Parking for customers.”
“If the business thinks it would help their business, then I support it. There’s plenty of parking nearby for anyone who wants to stay for longer.”
