About the project
We propose changing the priority control at the intersection of Fisher Parade and The Boulevard to improve driver safety.
We have received several concerns from the community and the Howick Local Board about safety at the intersection, which primarily revolve around the unconventional give-way on Fisher Parade and the increased traffic from the nearby Saint Kentigern College carpark.
We propose to remove the unconventional Give-Way on Fisher Parade and making The Boulevard a standard Stop control.
Other options were also considered. From our investigation the intersection appears to be operating relatively safely outside school times, and the proposed changes can be installed quickly and is cost effective.
We believe we have found a balance between cost effectiveness, improved safety and traffic flow, and driver awareness by bringing up the intersection to a familiar standard intersection design practice
What we are proposing
Fisher Parade and The Boulevard, Sunnyhills - Proposal Picture
Installing a right-turn bay on Fisher Parade for drivers to wait before turning safely and a new Stop sign on The Boulevard.
Providing two new formal lanes for exiting The Boulevard.
Introducing new yellow broken lines (no stopping at all times) on Fisher Parade and The Boulevard.
New road markings and appropriate signage.
Benefits and impacts
It addresses the current safety and operational issues at the intersection.
Brings the intersection up to standard intersection design practice.
The proposed changes could be installed quicker and cost effective.
Improved road markings (limit lines) and traffic lanes to help drivers understand where they need to stop and wait before entering the intersection.
Improves safety for all road users and traffic flow.
The proposed changes results in a loss of 10 on-street parking spaces.
