About the project

New Pedestrian facility upgrades on First View Avenue!

We are responding to concerns raised by local residents by proposing improvements along First View Avenue, between Bell Road and Pohutukawa Road. These upgrades include new kerb, channel, and footpath infrastructure to make it safer and easier for everyone to move around the neighbourhood.

There is currently a lack of essential infrastructure along First View Avenue with no footpaths and proper kerb and channel are missing.

With support from the Franklin Local Board’s Transport Capital Fund, we are now able to address these issues by providing safer footpaths and upgrading kerb and channel to improve access, visibility, stormwater management, and overall street safety.

What we’re planning to do before June 2026

We plan to upgrade these streets by:

Installing new footpaths along the northern side of First View Avenue, between Bell Road and Pohutukawa Road.

• Installing new kerb and channel (including stormwater network, catchpits, and manholes) on both sides of First View Avenue, between Bell Road and Pohutukawa Road.

Driveways to be re-graded to match the new kerb and channel height, with the surface reinstated on a like for like basis.

Installing new pram crossing to connect the footpaths together.

• Removing 4 on-street parking spaces to ensure there’s adequate visibility for drivers turning at the intersections

Removing 18 trees, or groups of vegetation, and planting new trees within the Beachlands area

How this will benefit your neighbourhood

• Provide a continuous and safer walking route through new, formal footpaths and pram crossings.

• Create a more predictable and comfortable environment for people walking, cycling, and driving.

These changes are part of a bigger transport plan

This project is funded through the Frankin Local Board Transport Capital Fund, which is used to deliver improvements based on community priorities. Auckland Transport will deliver the upgrades on behalf of your local board.

What happens next

We will contact you before any work begins.

Any updates or changes to the plan will be published on our website.
