About the project

Ellerslie-Panmure Highway is a major road for Central Auckland. About 25,000 vehicles travel the corridor every day, many of which are buses and freight vehicles. Parking is allowed along the section of the highway between Ballarat Street and Clare Place. Recent surveys, however, show that few people are actually parking here.

Although few cars still park here, people in the area have told us the ones that do can create bottlenecks on the road, causing congestion, delays and safety and visibility issues for people trying to manoeuvre around the parked cars. This is especially an issue for buses, freight and other large vehicles and can negatively affect reliability of services.

Some car crashes have also happened in this area because of the parked cars.

What we are proposing

Due to the low level of parking demand, to stop the bottlenecks that cause congestion, delays, and safety/visibility issues, and to improve overall traffic flow, we're proposing to install no stopping at all times broken yellow lines on both sides of Ellerslie-Panmure Highway between Ballarat Street and Clare Place.

Design plans are available to view on our webpage with more details on where the broken yellow lines would be placed.

What we want your feedback on

We are seeking feedback from nearby residents, businesses, and others that are located on or frequently travel through this part of Ellerslie-Panmure Highway. We'd like to know if there's anything important that we should be considering in making this proposed change. We also want to know if there's anything we might be missing that would help make your journey through this area safer and better.

How you can have your say

Have your say by completing our 4-question online survey below.

The survey will be open until 13 April 2025.

If you would like to speak with someone about our plans, please email us at ATEngagement@at.govt.nz.
