FAQs
When will paid parking operate?
Paid parking will operate from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm. Weekends and evenings will remain unrestricted.
How much will parking cost?
$1 per hour for the first two hours, $2 per hour after the first two hours. For example, eight hours parking would be $14.
How can I pay for parking?
Parking Machines
All parking machines will be pay by plate, allowing for an easy, paperless system that works using your vehicle’s registration number. To pay for parking, you enter your vehicle registration (licence plate) number into the parking machine and pay for the amount of time you wish to park. The machines accept credit and debit cards and ‘tap and go’ technology, e.g. Visa payWave and Mastercard PayPass.
AT Park App
The AT Park app for iPhone and Android smartphones makes it easier to pay for on-street parking. We’ll still install pay by plate machines, but you will also have the option of paying for parking using the AT Park app. Benefits of the app include pay only for the time you use, get text reminders when your parking is due to expire, easy to use map with parking locations and prices, with no transaction fees. For more information and to download the app, go to AT Park in your app store.
Will the parking be free for residents or local workers?
No, paid parking is available on a first come, first served basis. This ensures it can be shared between employees, residents, visitors and commuters.
Will parking permits be available for businesses or residents?
Parking permits are not available in this area. A requirement of Residential Parking Zones (RPZ) is that they are zoned as residential in the Auckland Unitary Plan (AUP). The area within this proposal is zoned as business/mixed use and while there may be residential elements within the area, these tend to be of an intensified nature which would inevitably bring an unsustainable demand for permits should they be offered.
Will the paid parking replace existing time restrictions?
Paid parking will replace any existing P120 time restrictions.
What are "no parking on the grass" restrictions?
This means that parking on grass berms is prohibited.
'No Stopping Off Roadway' regulatory signage can be installed where vehicles are illegally parking on grass berms/areas.
What is the fine if I pay for parking but overstay my allotted time?
The fine will start at $12.
Will there be other parking changes within the proposed area?
The proposal does not recommend changes to restrictions on New North Road, loading zones, shared vehicles, taxi stands, bus parking, bus stops and the majority of broken yellow lines in the area.
What are the surrounding parking restrictions?
Will the additional parking spaces created be unrestricted parking?
These spaces will be included as part of the paid parking.
Why isn’t New North Road included in this paid parking proposal?
New North Road hasn’t been included as it has better availability due to bus lanes and time restriction parking.
What’s happening with the Connected Communities project that was consulted on for New North Road corridor?
This project is currently on hold.
