About the Project

In response to safety concerns raised by residents, we’re making some changes to Duncan Avenue in Te Atatū South to improve safety and make it easier for everyone to get around—whether you’re walking, cycling, scooting, or driving.

Thanks to the Henderson–Massey Local Board’s Transport Capital Fund, we’re now able to make improvements that help everyone feel safer and more confident when using the street.

The changes we're making

These changes include new road features that encourage safe driving and help highlight areas where people are likely to cross or move around, including:

  • Replacing traffic islands with two new speed humps outside properties number 2 and 24 Duncan Avenue
  • Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) around the corner outside properties 3, 5, and 26 Duncan Avenue to provide better visibility
  • Install new signs and lighting to support these changes

Benefits to your community

  • Safer journeys - The improvements help reduce the risk of crashes and make it safer for everyone using the street.
  • Better access - It's easier for people of all ages and abilities to get across the road and move through the area safely.
  • More parking availability - Two additional spaces will be gained.
  • Supports walking and cycling - When streets feel safer, more people are likely to walk, bike, or use public transport. It creates a welcoming environment and supports a connected community.
  • New road markings and signs clarify right of way, improve safety by minimising the risk of collisions, and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

What happens next

We will install these changes by October/November 2025

Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

We will be in touch with the local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
