When will paid parking operate?

We are proposing the operational hours to be from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm. Weekends and evenings will remain unrestricted, unless you tell us otherwise.

    How much will parking cost?

$1 per hour, for as many hours as you like.

Will the parking in the paid parking area be free for residents and workers?

No, paid parking is available on a first come, first served basis. This ensures it can be shared between employees, residents, visitors and commuters. There is free P180 and P120 parking available nearby.

Will the paid parking replace existing time restrictions?

Paid parking will replace the 24hr time restriction currently in place along Queens Parade. The section of King Edward Parade that has P180 free parking will not change.

What is the fine if I park without paying?

    The fine is $40.

What is the fine if I pay for parking but overstay my allotted time?

The fine will start at $12.

I need to pick someone up; do I need to pay for my 5 minutes parking along the waterfront?

No, the 10-minute grace applies for the first ten minutes to all paid parking areas.

Is this new paid parking area just revenue-gathering?

We do rely on parking revenue to help fund necessary maintenance and upgrades across our network, and this type of revenue is becoming increasingly more important as a sustainable funding source to ensure we can continue to meet transport needs for Aucklanders.

For Devonport, we have monitored on-street parking usage since we introduced P120 time limits in the village and around the ferry terminal, and there is still a lot of congestion and lack of on-street parking availability at peak times. We need a parking management plan in place along the waterfront streets to manage the increase in demand and free up more parking for everyone. Paid parking without time limits is a proven way to achieve this.

What will you do with the money you make from this?

All revenue collected is used to fund broader AT projects and helps to offset funding from Auckland Council and NZTA. This includes road maintenance, new public transport services and major infrastructure improvements such as new bus and train stations.

Will there be other changes to parking in the Devonport area?

Just like when we introduced parking changes to the village and ferry area in 2021, we will monitor the impact of these changes to ensure it is addressing the core problems of limited parking availability and growing congestion.
