Project Update February 2025 :

We originally planned to complete this work in March 2025, now we plan to complete this work in April to May 2025.

Project update:

We would like to thank the community for their input on our proposal to improve parking availability in Cresta Avenue.

After reviewing all the feedback we received, we are proceeding as planned with one minor change.

  • We will not be painting no stopping lines opposite Cresta Avenue on Beach Haven Road as it is already illegal to park within the Intersection

What happens next :

  • We will install these changes in March 2025
  • Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

Community Feedback

Thank you for your local insights. We received feedback from the community, but none that would negatively affect the proposal.

Here are some of the supportive comments received:

  • We support Auckland Transport progressing the Cresta Ave Parking proposal to final design and implementation, as it will increase the number of parking spaces to support Shepherd’s Park.
  • Broken yellow lines (BYL) would improve visibility at the Cresta Avenue-Beach Haven Road intersection
  • Increase parking availability

Feedback summary is attached on right hand side of this page. some of the community responses are below:

Access and Visibility

  • Improves visibility for drivers and people on foot
  • Allows easy access for all vehicles including rubbish and other utility service trucks
  • Access issue will move to the other end of the road as residents search for other places to park

Our response

After reviewing the feedback summary, the Kaipātiki Local Board have decided to support the introduction of angle parking as proposed. The final decision now rests with the Traffic Control Committee.

About the project

We’ve received a request from the Kaipātiki Local Board to install angled parking on Cresta Avenue in Beach Haven due to the high parking demand for local sports clubs and facilities in the area.

We would also like to address safety concerns near the intersection of Cresta Avenue and Beach Haven Road.

This proposal is funded through the Local Board Community Transport Fund. We’d like to get your thoughts on the proposed changes to improve parking availability.

A drawing on the right side of this page shows where the proposed changes will be installed.

What we are proposing

  • Change parallel parking spaces to angled parking on a section of Cresta Avenue.
  • Install 25 angled parking on the east side of Cresta Avenue. This will increase the total number of parking spaces to 43 for the community, compared to only 18 parallel parking spaces now.
  • Paint white parking limit lines or parking bays (sometimes known as hockey sticks) on the west side of Cresta Avenue
  • Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) around the intersection of Cresta Avenue and Beach Haven Road.
  • Paint new road markings and install a Give Way sign at the intersection.

Benefits to your community

  • Angled Parking provides additional 25 parking spaces. Makes it easier for drivers to pull into and out of spaces, improves traffic flow as cars need less space to manoeuvre and reduces congestion. It also improves visibility as drivers have a clearer view of oncoming traffic when leaving a parking spot.
  • Parking bays/limit lines: Clearly defined spaces or limit lines maximise parking, reduce confusion and helps drivers avoid blocking driveways. They improve safety by organising traffic flow within the parking area, lowering risk of crash incidents.
  • No Stopping Zones: clears visibility into and out of Cresta Avenue and makes it easier for drivers to see oncoming cars, cyclists and people walking or crossing the road.
  • New Road markings and signs at the intersection: Clarifies the right of way, improve safety and visibility by minimising risk of collisions, and ensures compliance with traffic regulations.
