Engagement outcome - March 2026

We would like to thank residents and local businesses for taking the time to engage with us and share their feedback on our plans to remove the raised crossing near 55 Clevedon Road, Papakura.

Feedback was received through a mailed letter and visiting the local shops and businesses.

After reviewing the feedback we received, we are proceeding with the proposal without any changes.

This change ensures pedestrian safety remains a priority supported by the community while resolving the issues caused by the raised intersection.

Construction

We anticipate construction will start by May/June 2026.

What’s changing

  • The raised crossing will be removed to reduce noise and vibration issues.

What’s is planned to replace the raised crossing

  • A new pedestrian signal that activates only when someone is waiting to cross.
  • To accommodate the new crossing and improve visibility four parking spaces will be removed.
  • Widening the footpath near the crossing.
  • Removal of one tree from the berm and some minor pruning
  • Install high friction surface to improve drivers’ awareness and crossing safety

What this means for the area

This change is designed to make the area safer and more comfortable for everyone – whether you’re visiting the shops, running a business, walking or driving through Clevedon Road.

  • It responds to noise and vibration concerns from nearby residents.
  • It improves pedestrian safety and confidence, by providing controlled crossing opportunity. This is particularly important for vulnerable road users such as children, elderly, and people with disabilities.
  • It will help helps drivers turning out of Grove Road by creating natural gaps in traffic. This can help reducing delays and improving intersection efficiency at Grove Road.

We heard from residents and business that the raised crossing outside 55 Clevedon Road, near the local dairy and shops is causing noise and vibrations when vehicles drive over it. This is mainly because of the softer soil in the area.
