Carlton Gore, Road Park Road intersection improvements
About the project
Improving safety at the Carlton Gore Road, Park Road Intersection!
The intersection of Park Road and Carlton Gore Road has been identified as having issues crashes at the intersection when drivers are turning right, from the north approach of Park Road to the west approach of Carlton Gore Road.
Between 2020 and 2024, there were 22 reported crashes at the Park Road / Carlton Gore Road intersection, nine of which were directly attributed to filtered right turns. Almost 67% of the crashes related to filtering resulted in injury crashes. Notably, one of these crashes involved an e-scooter.
What improvements are we proposing?
We proposed banning the filtered right turn to reduce the turning crashes at this intersection.
A filtered right turn means drivers can turn right during a green light, but they must wait for a safe gap in oncoming traffic. This can be risky, especially in busy areas, because:
Drivers may misjudge gaps
Visibility can be limited
It relies on quick decision-making under pressure
The changes we are proposing by June 2026
Ban the right turn from Park Road north to Carlton Gore Road west
Remove the right turn road markings on Park Road
Place an advisory sign near Domain Drive North

Benefits to your neighbourhood
Improved safety for all road users
Reduced crash risk by removing a known hazard
Minimal impact on traffic flow – fewer than 10 vehicles make this turn during peak hours
Alternative route available via Glasgow Terrace
What happens next
The survey has now been closed, and we are reviewing the feedback.
We’ll post the outcome of this proposal and a summary of community feedback on our website.
Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
