About the project
In response to safety concerns raised by the community, we are carrying out safety improvements along the section of Candia Road, between Coulter Road and Henderson Valley Road.
This area is considered a high- risk road due to records that show a pattern of loss of control and head-on type crashes in the last five years.
The changes we're making
- Painting a solid wide centreline along the bends on Candia Road to clearly define the separation of traffic lanes
- Widening the edge line markings to make it more visible to drivers
- Installing and replacing advisory signs like advance speed and curve warning signs
- Installing reflective road markers (cat’s eyes). Cat’s eyes are warning devices that help motorists drive within the lane especially in dark conditions
- Trimming tree branches where necessary to improve the visibility of the signs
Benefits to your community
- Better signage and road markings will help road users who are unfamiliar with this stretch of the road to drive to the conditions and manage their speed and travel through the tight curves safely.
- Solid centrelines will reduce the likelihood of unsafe overtaking manoeuvres and encourage the drivers to drive within their lanes, reducing the risk of head-on collisions.
- Cat’s eyes have been proven to reduce the risk of head-on and run-off-road type crashes by helping to keep drivers alert and in their lanes.
What happens next
We are looking at installing these changes by June 2025.
Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.
We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
