Thanks to the Upper Harbour Local Board Transport Capital Fund, we’re upgrading and improving selected bus facilities in your area, specifically outside Whenuapai Park and the New Shoots Children's Centre in Whenuapai.
The changes we’re making in November 2025:
- Install a new bus shelter at bus stop number 5928 outside Whenuapai Park, Totara Road.
- Install a new bus shelter at bus stop number 5929 outside New Shoots Children’s Centre, Totara Road.
- Install tactile pavers at each stop, which are yellow guidance markers to help visually impaired passengers find their way safely.
- Install new red surface bands at both stops, which warn cyclists of an upcoming shared path for people on foot and in the bus stop area.
- Install new road white marking at both bus stops, which warns cyclists and gives priority to people crossing from the footpath to the bus stop area.
- Install a see-through fence at both bus stops to discourage people from walking into the path of cyclists and crossing from an unsafe location.
A PDF of this drawing can be found on this page under "Totara Drawing".
Benefits to your community:
- A bus shelter improves comfort while waiting for the bus as it provides people with a place to sit and protection from the wind and rain.
- New road markings and signs clarify right of way, improve safety by minimising the risk of collisions, and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
- Better access and connections to public transport help with bus reliability and frequency.
- Gives you more travel choices around Whenuapai that are good for you, your whānau and the environment.
- Reduces traffic congestion and emissions, and supports a more connected, sustainable and liveable community to get you to work, school or local shops and home safely.
