About the Project:
We’re making changes to some parking spaces in Birkenhead Town Centre. These changes include wider parking spaces, changing existing P10 parks to P60 and installing a new P5 loading zone.
With support from Kaipātiki Local Board, we are focused on improving accessibility for locals to park nearby their local shops, with greater convenience and easier connections to the local town centre.
We are installing these changes between June to July 2026
Wider angled parking spaces outside 43-47 Birkenhead Avenue, Birkenhead (full detail on our website & drawings). No on street car parks will be removed.
Changing the existing P10 parks outside 22 Mokoia Road, Birkenhead to P60 8am-6pm, Monday to Sunday.
Changing the existing parking outside 194-198 Hinemoa Street, Birkenhead to a P5 Loading Zone, 8am-6pm, Monday to Sunday.
A full design drawing is available on this page, titled "Birkenhead Town Centre changes" which shows the locations on a PDF map.
This project aims to improve parking availability for locals and businesses
We want to work with you to confirm these changes are best for the wider community, to make it easier and safer for locals. These changes would make it:
Safer with wider, angled parks on Birkenhead Avenue, like the existing angled parks but wider so it’s easier to open your door or for couriers to drop things off quickly.
Improved accessibility with extended times for on street car parks on Mokoia Road.
Improved accessibility for couriers and people collecting things on Hinemoa Street, helping drivers, couriers and people on foot move easier.
New road markings and signs will support these changes, ensuring locals parking availability for businesses and visits to Birkenhead Town Centre.
What happens next
We will be in touch with local residents before any work takes place.
Any updates or changes to the plan will be shared on our website.
