About the Project

We have heard the businesses and the community concerns about parking availability at the intersection of Brassey Road and Hinemoa Street, Birkenhead. We are planning to introduce time-restricted parking from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, along with some Give Way Controls.

Implementing time restrictions will improve parking availability, allowing these parking spaces to be used by visitors, as well as residents.

The Changes we're making

  • Install a 2-hour parking restriction (P120) that applies between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, along Brassey Road approaching the intersection with Hinemoa Street, and outside 80 and 82 Hinemoa Street.
  • Extend the existing "no stopping at all times"(broken yellow lines) outside property 78 Hinemoa Street.
  • Installing a Give Way control at the intersection of Brassey Road and Hinemoa Street to indicate priority movements when travelling through the intersection. A sign will be installed to support these changes.
  • P120 signs will be installed to indicate the restrictions within the designated parking area.

Benefits to your community

  • More Parking Availability: With a 2-hour parking limit, more people can use the parking spaces throughout the day, making it easier for residents and visitors to find a spot.
  • Support Local Business: Higher parking turnover means more visitors can access local businesses, shops, cafes, and restaurants, boosting sales and foot traffic.
  • Convenient for the Community: Visitors to the area will have a better chance of finding parking nearby, making their visit more enjoyable.
  • New road markings clarify right of way and improve operational efficiency by minimising risk of collisions and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.

What happens next

We will install these changes from October 2025 to March 2026. Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

It will take one day for the installation of the new signage and road marking in good weather conditions. We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.

Please remember to park courteously and look for parking restriction signs. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
