We’re planning safety improvements at the intersection of Bombay Road and Great South Road in Bombay, and we’d like to hear your feedback.

Between 2019 and 2023, five crashes were reported at this location. Three of these involved drivers losing control while negotiating the bend, and the other two were turning incidents at the intersection.

These patterns suggest that the current T-intersection layout may be contributing to driver error and reduced control.

What we’re planning

To address these issues and improve safety, we’re planning the following changes:

  • Relocating the Stop line closer to Great South Road to improve visibility and positioning for drivers.
  • Chip reseal surfacing on Great South Road to help prevent loss of control.
  • Paint a shoulder flush road marking on the eastern corner to guide turning movements.
  • New road markings to improve driver clarity, traffic lanes and navigation.
  • New curve warning signs to alert drivers earlier.
  • Vegetation trimming to improve visibility at the intersection.

Next steps

We anticipate implementing these changes by June 2026.

Project benefits

  • Improved safety at the intersection.
  • Safer, smoother journeys for all road users.
  • Reduced risk of crashes linked to layout and visibility.
