About the project

We’re responding to safety concerns raised by the community about improving visibility and safety at the crossing near Bayswater Primary School. Cars parking too close to the crossing make it harder for drivers to see tamariki and families trying to cross.

Bayswater Avenue is a busy road that parents and their tamariki frequently use to reach the school and local amenities. Extending parking restrictions near the school crossing will significantly improve safety for the community, particularly for children crossing the road to attend the school.

The changes we’re making

  • Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside #174 Bayswater Avenue. To clear access and improve visibility we need to reallocate road space and remove one parking space.

Benefits to your community:

  • Makes it safer and easier for people walking to access various facilities along Bayswater Avenue, especially the schools nearby.
  • Improves visibility for drivers to be aware of the crossing, people walking, cycling, and sight distance for drivers so they can see people waiting to cross the road, especially during busy drop off and pick up times.
  • Safer crossing for tamariki – Protects students walking to and from Bayswater Primary School by keeping the crossing area clear.

What happens next

We will install these changes in November 2025. Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

It will take one day for the installation of the new signage and road marking in good weather conditions.

We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.

Please remember to park courteously and look for parking restriction signs. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
