Update: Public Feedback period has ended on 21 October 2025.

About the project

Aranui Road can be a busy road connecting to Sylvia Park and there have been recent housing developments in the area leading more cars parked on the road.

Following feedback from residents, we’re planning to add broken yellow lines (no parking at any time) at the curvy bend outside 67 Aranui Road and at the approaches to the Aranui/Ruawai and Ruawai/Johnston Road intersections to improve visibility and help everyone move around the area more safely.

Why we’re making these changes
We’re making changes along Aranui Road and nearby intersections to help everyone move around more safely in the neighbourhood.

We’ll be painting broken yellow lines to show “no parking at any time,” especially at tight corners and busy spots.

This will improve visibility and make it easier for drivers, pedestrians, and buses to see and be seen.

What’s Changing

Near 67 Aranui Road
  • Paint broken yellow lines on the bend to improve visibility.
Aranui Road / Ruawai Road intersection
  • Paint broken yellow lines to support safer pedestrian crossings and improve bus movements.
Ruawai Road / Johnston Road intersection
  • Paint broken yellow lines within 6 metres of the intersection to prevent parking near the corner, improve visibility, and support safe turning in and out of Johnston Road.
Near 64 Aranui Road
  • Add “Slow” markings with red surfacing near the childcare centre and school bus stop to remind drivers to reduce speed in this high-activity area.
Parking adjustments

To support these safety improvements, we will be removing some on-street parking:

  • Around nine spaces near 67 Aranui Road
  • One space at the Aranui/ Ruawai Road intersection

How this will benefit your neighbourhood
We’re working with you to make roads safer in your neighbourhood.
These changes will:
  • Improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians
  • Support safer turning at intersections
  • Make it easier for buses and larger vehicles to navigate intersections

What happens next

We plan to complete these changes by early 2026.

Painting the broken yellow lines will take around one day, depending on weather conditions.

We’ll update the community if there are any changes to our plan before work begins on this website.
