About the project
Following concerns for driver safety travelling along Annandale Road in Kumeū, we’re doing some maintenance work to remove overgrown plants and planning to install safety improvements including upgrades to road marking and signs.
Our team investigated a fatal crash on Annandale Road which highlighted the need for an action, particularly at the sharp 90-degree curve near 218 Annandale Road.
Doing this work gives more visibility of the curve of the road and advanced warning to drivers. It will reduce the likelihood of a crash on this rural road and ensures everyone gets where they need to and home safely.
The changes we’re making:
Paint No passing zones: Add double yellow lines on the sharp 90-degree curve near 218 Annandale Road.
Paint clear road markings: Paint white lines along the edges of the road on the curve.
Upgrade Curve Warning Signs: Replace the current curve warning signs with more advanced ones.
Remove Old Signs and overgrown plants: Take down any old or outdated signs that are currently in place.
Drawings on the right hand side of this webpage, show where the changes will be installed
Benefits to your community:
No passing zones (double yellow lines):
Prevents Head-On Collisions: By clearly marking a no-passing zone, these lines help keep vehicles in their lanes, reducing the risk of head-on crashes.
Improves Traffic Flow: Drivers are less likely to attempt risky overtaking manoeuvres, leading to smoother and safer traffic movement.
Clear Road markings:
Enhances Visibility: These lines help drivers see the edges of the road, especially in poor visibility conditions like at night or during bad weather.
Guides Drivers: Clearly marked edges help drivers stay on the road, reducing the likelihood of accidents caused by veering off the road.
Upgraded curve warning signs:
Provides Early Warning: Advanced warning signs give drivers more time to slow down and prepare for the curve, reducing the risk of accidents.
Increases Awareness: New, more visible signs make drivers more aware of the upcoming curve, promoting safer driving behaviour.
Removal of old signs and overgrown plants:
Reduces Confusion: Removing outdated signs ensures that drivers only see the most relevant and up-to-date information, reducing potential confusion.
Improves Aesthetics: Fewer signs can make the area look cleaner and more organized, contributing to a better driving environment.
Removing overgrown plants: Clears access and ensures better driver visibility for sight lines to see oncoming traffic and other motorists
What happens next
We are planning to make these changes in November - December 2024.
We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.
