Allendale Road, Mount Albert - Installation of Two Speed Bumps
Consultation Outcome
We thank the community of Allendale Road, Mount Albert for your engagement and feedback on our proposal to improve pedestrian safety through the installation of two additional speed bumps.
After carefully reviewing the feedback we received, we are proceeding as proposed.
What happens next
We anticipate these changes will be constructed in June 2026.
We'll be in touch with local residents before any changes take place.
Community Feedback
Thank you for helping us make better decisions for your neighbourhood, informed by your local knowledge.
Community feedback discussed benefits, concerns and suggestions for the project.
The main benefits include:
- Make it safer for people to cross the street, especially children going to and from the school.
- Slow down traffic on Allendale and reduce the speed of cars that use this road as a cut-through.
- Less traffic on Allendale Road would make getting in and out of the driveway much safer.
The top concerns about the proposal mentioned by people were:
- The proposed speed bumps could increase congestion and make the road less convenient for residents.
- Adding two new speed bumps are unnecessary because the road already has 6 speed bumps and there is no genuine speeding or safety concerns.
- The proposed changes would not help stop the rat-running, which is caused by major traffic congestion and poor light-phasing at the Mount Albert Town Centre intersections (New North Rd and Mt Albert Rd). Fixing these would remove the need for drivers to use Allendale Rd as a shortcut.

Project Update (December 2025)
We are currently working on responses to all feedback we have received. The project team will report back on key outcomes, which are expected around March 2026.
About the project
We are proposing the installation of two additional speed bumps on Allendale Road.
We’ve heard from both the community and the Albert-Eden Local Board about Allendale Road being used as a shortcut route for motorists to avoid Mount Albert Town Centre. This has led to increased traffic and raised safety concerns in the area.
Currently, Allendale Road has six speed bumps. The proposed two new bumps will be placed in areas where there is a noticeable gap between existing ones, helping to maintain consistent traffic calming along the road. These locations have been selected because there are existing streetlights nearby, ensuring the speed bumps will be well-lit and meet industry standards.
What we are proposing
Allendale Road, Mount Albert - Proposal Drawing
- Install two new speed bumps:
- One outside 21 and 22 Allendale Road
- Another outside 47 and 36 Allendale Road
- Add new signage and road markings to support these changes.
Benefits and impacts
- Safer streets for everyone, especially pupils walking to and from school.
- Helps reduce the use of Allendale Road as a shortcut route.
- Encourages drivers to slow down to safer speeds.
