About the project

We’re making parking changes to improve rubbish truck access on Allen Avenue, Papatoetoe

  • A resident asked AT to investigate how to make it easier for rubbish trucks to collect rubbish and turn around on Allen Avenue.
  • When cars are parked in the turning circle, rubbish trucks cannot safely collect rubbish and turn around at the end of the road.
  • Auckland Council’s Waste Management team have also told us that rubbish trucks are having difficulty operating safely and efficiently here.
  • To address this, we will paint broken yellow lines around the turning circle. This will make it easier, safer, and more efficient for rubbish trucks to collect rubbish and turn around.

What we’re planning to do by November 2026

Paint broken yellow lines around the Allen Avenue turning circle. This will remove four parking spaces. You can also view or download a copy of the drawing here or in the Documents Section of the webpage.

We understand that some residents and visitors may want to park in this area. However, this parking change is required to support essential services. Rubbish trucks need to be able to collect rubbish and turn around safely.

How this will benefit your neighbourhood

These changes will:

  • Improve access for rubbish trucks. Keeping the turning circle clear will make it easier and safer for rubbish trucks to collect rubbish and turn around.
  • Keep rubbish collection running on time. Improving access will help reduce delays and missed collections.
  • Improve access for emergency vehicles. Emergency service vehicles, including large fire trucks, will be able to access this street quickly and safely during a call-out.

What happens next

These changes are needed to support essential services. However, we encourage you to get in touch with us to share:

  • Any local knowledge or observations that may help refine the design
  • Any operational considerations we should be aware of
  • Suggestions that could improve the final layout or construction approach
