About the project

We’re responding to concerns raised by the community to make it safer and more accessible on Akatea Road and Culperry Road in Glendene.

People in the community, including local businesses, have told us about antisocial behaviour and dangerous driving happening in the area, especially at night.

To help make the area safer for everyone, we will be restricting motor vehicles access at night.

The changes we’re making by March-April 2026:

  • Light motor vehicles will not be allowed to enter the designated industrial area from 10pm to 4am each day.
  • Emergency services and essential vehicles will still be able to access the area.
  • New signs will be installed to clearly show the restriction.
  • We will monitor the area and work with enforcement teams to support safety.

Benefits to your community:

    • Improved safety for people on foot: Fewer vehicles at night lowers the risk of harm to people walking in the area.
    • Less damage to the road: Reducing antisocial behaviour helps protect the road and lowers repair costs.
    • Safer environment for businesses and workers: A quieter, safer industrial area supports productivity and wellbeing for people who work, walk, and cycle there.
    • Encouraging sustainable travel: Limiting unnecessary vehicle use promotes walking and cycling for short trips.

What happens next

  • We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
