About the project
New Crossing Facility at 33 Watene Crescent !
The Ōrākei Local Board has identified your area for improvements. On their behalf, we are planning to install a crossing facility outside 33 Watene Crescent.
Currently, there is no formal pedestrian connection from the southern side of Watene Crescent to Ōrākei Domain. With increasing pedestrian demand in the area, especially during sporting events at the rugby fields in the domain, pedestrians are forced to cross Watene Crescent without the aid of a dedicated crossing facility.
Installing a crossing facility here will make it easier and safter to access the domain for everyone.
To accommodate these safety changes, two parking spaces will be reprioritised.
What we’re planning to do before June 2026
• Installing a separated pedestrian crossing near #33 Watene Crescent to improve pedestrian access to Orakei Domain
• Add side islands to narrow down lane widths and slow down vehicles approaching the crossing
• Add a footpath and pram crossing leading to the new pedestrian crossing
• Removal of two on street parking spaces to increase visibility for pedestrians using the new crossing and allow drivers to see the pedestrians waiting to cross
These upgrades will make this part of Watene Crescent safer for everyone by improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians travelling to and from Ōrākei Domain.
What happens next
We want to hear your feedback on:
Any specific local knowledge, operational issues or suggestions that may help to refine the proposed design
We would love to hear your feedback up until 15 December
