About the project

We’re responding to concerns from the community about a safer place to cross Glenfield Road. We heard your concerns about how difficult and unsafe it can feel to cross such a busy road, especially for people walking, using prams, mobility devices, or trying to reach nearby bus stops.

In response, we’re planning a new traffic light controlled (signalised) crossing to make it safer and easier for people to cross Glenfield Road.

The changes we’re making

  • Installing a new traffic light–controlled (signalised) pedestrian crossing near 24 Glenfield Road
  • Upgrading footpaths and pram crossings on both sides of the road
  • Installing new tactile paving to support people with vision impairments
  • Relocating two nearby bus stopsto safely integrate with the new crossing layout:
    • The northbound bus stop and shelter (Stop ID: 3895) will move from outside 145 Glenfield Road to outside 141 Glenfield Road
    • The opposing bus stop will be adjusted to align safely with the new crossing
  • Making minor changes to road space, including the removal of one on‑street parking space, to accommodate the new signals
  • Installing new traffic signals, signage and road markings

Why this option has been chosen

We looked at different ways and locations for a safe crossing in this area. Because Glenfield Road is a busy main road, traffic lights are the safest and most reliable option for people crossing.

Other options were considered, but they would have caused more traffic delays on Glenfield Road and made it harder for people to get in and out of nearby driveways. The proposed design balances safety with how the road needs to operate.

Benefits to the Community

  • Improved safety for people crossing the road, including those with accessibility needs
  • Better access to public transport, making the bus stop safer and easier to use
  • Supports walking and travel choice by improving confidence to cross safely
  • Responds to local feedback about the need for a safer crossing point
