Scott Point, your bus is coming!

We've heard the community's call for better public transport connections, and we're proposing an interim new bus service for Scott Point.

The new 113 bus service will connect Scott Point with Hobsonville War Memorial Park and shops and the Hobsonville Point Ferry Terminal, via Wallace Road.

This new bus service will use smaller 13-seat buses. This is an interim solution until some roads in Scott Point, including Joshua Carder Drive and Roa Avenue, can be upgraded and completed to accommodate full-size buses. When all the required roads are complete, the existing 112 bus service will be routed to serve Scott Point, and the 113 will no longer operate. The 112 currently runs every 30 minutes from 5:30am to 11pm on weekdays, and 6am to 11pm on weekends.

There will be two different types of vehicles delivering the 113 bus service, as shown in the images below.

The image above shows an example of the fully accessible small diesel bus that would be used for the interim 113 bus service.
The image above shows an example of the fully accessible small electric bus that would be used for the 113 bus service.

Because of the smaller size of the buses delivering the 113 bus service, we will provide a more frequent service during school peak periods, to alleviate some of the capacity concerns.

Frequency of service

We're planning to run this interim 113 service every 20 minutes during school peak periods (7:40am-8:40am and 3pm-4:40pm), and every 40 minutes during off-peak periods.

The intention is for this service to connect with the Hobsonville Point Ferry Terminal, delivering passengers in time for the first sailing towards the city in the morning (that's 6:25am weekdays and 8:35am weekends) and the last ferry coming from the city in the evening (that's 11:05pm Monday to Saturday and 9:35pm Sundays).

Bus route

The map above shows the route that the new interim 113 bus service will take, in blue. The 113 bus route will start and end at the Hobsonville Point Ferry Terminal. In the Scott Point direction, it will travel up Launch Road then left into Wallace Road, making use of the existing bus stops until it reaches Tahingamanu Road, where it will turn right. It will then turn left into Clark Road, and then right into Squadron Drive, before turning left onto Hobsonville Point Road. Here it will serve the existing stops at Hobsonville Point Secondary School, and the Hobsonville War Memorial Park and shops.

The bus will then turn left into Wiseley Road and Clark Road, will travel down Scott Road, making use of the existing stops near Clark House and the retirement village. It will then continue on a one-way anti-clockwise loop past Scott Point School along Scott Road toward Scott Point Beach and up along Craigs Way, until turning left onto Joshua Carder Drive on the other side of Scott Point School. Once that loop is completed, the bus will turn right again into Scott Road until it joins Hobsonville Point Road, where it will turn right and continue the journey back to the Hobsonville Point Ferry Terminal.

Passengers can use the existing bus stops at the shops and War Memorial Park to transfer and connect to bus services to Westgate (12 and 112), Whenuapai (114) and the North Shore (12).

New bus stops

There are two new bus stops needed to run this service, and we need feedback from the community on these new bus stops before they can be finalised.

The first is a new stop at the Hobsonville Point Ferry Terminal. This stop is critical for the implementation of the new service, because the current bus stop at the Ferry Terminal is not long enough to accommodate another bus using this stop.

We are proposing to locate a new interim bus stop on Hudson Bay Extension Road, while the 113 bus is in service. This stop would be shorter than the standard bus stop area, as it would only need to accommodate the smaller buses used for the 113 service.

Please see the image below for the proposed location of the new bus stop. It also includes tactile pavers for a new crossing.

The image above shows the approximate location of the new bus stop needed on Hudson Bay Ext Rd near the Hobsonville Ferry Terminal.

The second new stop needed is near Clark House. There is already an existing bus stop on Clark Road between Nugget Ave and Waenganui Road. A complementary bus stop on the opposite side of the road will be needed for those wishing to travel in the direction of the shops and Ferry Terminal.
