Duck Creek Road, Stillwater - Proposed one-way road

We want to thank the community of Stillwater for their active engagement and feedback on our proposal to make Duck Creek Road one-way. We have decided not to proceed with the project for the following reasons:

  • Majority of the community are concerned that the proposal to make Duck Creek Road one-way will create more congestion on Stillwater Crescent and Snapper Road.
  • The community have also raised safety concerns for vehicles and trailers when making a right turn from Stillwater Crescent into Duck Creek Road.
  • The residents are concerned the proposal to make Duck Creek Road one way will lead to losing connectivity to the boat ramp from the Southern side. Drivers will have to go the longer way to get their vehicle and trailer resulting in extended queues at the boat ramp.
  • The community expressed that the proposal to make Duck Creek Road one way is a temporary solution and does not address the long-term problems.

The Stillwater community raised safety and traffic movement concerns with vehicles parking on the berm along Duck Creek Road and blocking traffic from travelling in both directions. We are proposing to change the layout of Duck Creek Road to make it safer travelling southbound from Stillwater to Snapper Road.

The changes in the proposal include:

  • Creating a one-way road layout in the southbound direction of Duck Creek Road between 65-35 Duck Creek Road. We would install flexi-posts just before the intersection of Snapper Road to narrow the road at the exit point to better highlight the one-way layout at the tail end.
  • Shifting the broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) between 65-35 Duck Creek Road to the eastern side of Duck Creek Road. Additional broken yellow lines would be painted between the Stillwater Boating Club and the start of the one-way, and around the intersection of Duck Creek Road and Snapper Road.
  • Removing the centreline where the road would become one-way.
  • Marking out a parking shoulder on one side of the road to encourage drivers to park on one-side of the road and improve Southbound traffic movement from the boat club.
